Tours Form many visitors of San Cristobal de las Casas this is, with no doubt, the nicest and colonial city in Chiapas; the air there is pure, the streets are tidy and the life is quite and practice.
The tourism that you can appreciate in this town is mostly European; this is because of the city’s simpleness and the strong Indian traditions. San Cristobal it’s not a city for the massive tourism, the hotels there are very simple but typical and has many Cafes and bars where there is possible to spend a nice moment (see hotels in Chiapas).

San Cristóbal de las Casas’s Cathedral

Was built in 1528 and remodel at the beginnings of the XVIII century; this cathedral is the most representative monument of the city. The inside keeps interesting art pieces, and the most outstanding ones are two beautiful altarpieces with a Salomonic baroque style of wood cover with gold and the paints of the artist Juan Correa.
This Cathedral has too many treasures, for it deserves a visit.

La Sirena’s House

Was built in 1529 for the Captain Diego de Mazariegos’s orders in his conquest campaign and then was give it to Andres de Tovilla, who was the conqueror’s partner. The door with coat of arms is flanks by spoilt columns with funny lions and the superior window it’s between two eagles. Another window is decorated with figures of a mermaid or a snake’s woman. The name of the house is because the rough mermaid that it’s in the corner front of the square.

Artesanias-Amanecer’s Institute.

This institute has as object the preservation, promotion, diffusion and commercialization of the handicrafts products make by the Chiapas State.
The store that is there, the visitor can get beautiful pieces of amber, ceramic and textile jewels, there are also many types of clothes with new designs that weaving women make, always trying to conserve the Indian handmade tradition

Saint Domingo’s handicrafts Mercado

This is an open air colorful Mercado of handicrafts surrounded by constructions of the Temple and the Ex-Saint Domingo Convent and de Charity Temple. These are the favorite places for the international tourism, because they love all the stands one next to the other full of creativity and traditions capture in all the textile, jewels, cost embroiderers,

Mayor Square 31st March

Since the colonial time this square has been the heart and the center of this town, being the indisputable place where the biggest events and celebrations take place, some of these events could be the San Juan party or Christmas, those were dates in which the Indians arrived to San Cristobal to pay their tributes to the Spanish Crown.

Municipal Palace

It’s a construction with a neoclassic style that in the first floor presents 16 arch of middle point with Tuscan columns, while in the second floor there are rectangular windows framed by double columns.
It was built in 1885 by Carlos Z. Flores who was influence by the Giacomo Barozzi de Vignola’s architecture.

Night Life in San Cristobal

Even tough San Cristobal is a quite population; it has some ideal places to spend all night since bars with a bohemian ambience to excellent discos and restaurants of Mexican and international food where the tourist can enjoy music alive.
